April 19

A good presentation was made when the students were prepared. Items that judges and people could take with them went over very well. My laptop died two hours in, but I had already presented so it wasn't a huge deal. Also, it was difficult to operate my laptop from in front of my table while still facing my judge. Capstone could be vastly improved by the instructors being more organized.

April 12th

My table will have a table cloth , a tri-fold with my poster attached, my laptop in front of the tri-fold showing my website/my sample powerpoint, brochures, several examples of birth control, and two binders, one containing my capstone paper and sources and one containing my sample curriculum. 

Third Technology Piece

For my third piece of technology, I created a brochure.

This is my website so far. 

My end product will be a day long curriculum for comprehensive sex education.

Four Slides

These are my four slides. They tie together because they use the same background and font, and they tie in with my website by using the same basic color scheme. They relate to my project by showing different kinds of birth control.

Today I am home sick from class.

PSA

Teenagers in America have a higher birthrate than all other developed countries. In 2008, nearly seven percent of girls between fifteen and nineteen became pregnant. Comprehensive sex education is significantly more effective than abstinence only sex education at preventing teen pregnancies and teen sexually transmitted infection contraction. Comprehensive sex education needs to be taught in all public schools. Not understanding how to have safe sex is detrimental, but it does not mean that being taught comprehensive sex education would encourage teenagers to do things they are not doing already. Safe sex is cheaper than a baby nine months later.

Technology Component

In my capstone project, I plan to create a brochure and a photo gallery, along with a full website.

Friday Febuary 8th

Today in class we worked on the drafts of our capstone posters.

Practice Poster

This is my practice capstone poster on the topic of hormone disruptors.

I chose the picture to make an impact, and the font and background were intended to look toxic. I also chose the color scheme for the same reasons.

Febuary 6th

Today we worked on our capstone posters or our practice posters. For my capstone poster, I will be looking for pictures of birth control and the consequences of not talking about safe sex.

Febuary 4th

Monday we looked at everyone's practice posters, aside from mine and on other person's because we were absent on Friday. Text was very important in the practice posters, it was hard to read the text on most of them.

Wednesday 1/30

Toady in class we talked about making posters. We saw the P90X example poster and discussed the elements of it. Then we discussed ideas and possible designs for our practice posters. Finally, we began work on our practice posters about hormone disruption.

Monday 1/28

Today in class we discussed the syllabus. We also talked about hormone disruptors and posters for our capstone projects. We are going to have to create a fake poster for the reduction of hormone disruptors in our environment.

I was home sick Friday with the stomach bug.

Capstone Project Topic

My capstone project is to create a comprehensive sex education curriculum for January term. My curriculum will include lesson plans and speakers, along with class activities and worksheets.

Why I Hate Capstone

1. Capstone is not likely to have an impact on my future.

2. My Capstone project is taking time away from my other school work, my college applications, and my job.

3. If I fail  my capstone project, I would fail my capstone class. This would cause me to graduate high school without a distinguished diploma, even though I have been working towards the distinguished diploma for the last 6 years.
